L'ELISIR D'AMORE

Julian Kim, now performing the role of Belcore for the eighth time in L’elisir d’amore, took the stage under the direction of Marcello Grigorov. In this production, Belcore appeared in a playful green-and-white soldier’s uniform, accompanied by a humorous company of fellow soldiers. Julian’s interpretation added a lighthearted charm to the character, making Belcore irresistibly likable and drawing frequent smiles from the audience. His performance was once again praised for his frank, light baritone voice and effective phrasing. Reviewers also noted the natural softness and musicality of his delivery, setting him apart from the more rigid phrasing sometimes attributed to non-Italian singers, especially those from Asia.

"Has it often been said that oriental singers have bad pronunciation and inert phrasing? The Korean Julian Kim is the exception that proves the rule: finally a Belcore with an appropriate accent, a frank light baritone voice, effective phrasing and a nice soft r."

"Julian Kim plays a Belcore who is a little too cocky but relaxed on stage and with a firm and well-supported voice."
