Julian Kim's Stage Musicals

Julian Kim made his Korean musical theater debut as the Phantom in the 2023 Korean production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera, which ran for nearly a year. His portrayal earned him the New Male Artist Award at the 8th Korean Musical Awards. Following Phantom, he took on the role of Pierre Bezukhov in the war-and-peace-themed Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 and later portrayed Emperor Gojong in the 30th-anniversary production of the Korean original musical The Last Empress.
While musical theater and opera both integrate singing and acting, they differ in vocal technique, musical style, and dramatic approach. Playing the Phantom allowed him to maintain his operatic foundation while adapting to the distinct vocal demands of musical theater, making it a valuable opportunity to expand his artistic range. His venture into musical theater has allowed him to explore more nuanced and complex acting, a quality that had already earned him acclaim in his operatic career.
Now, Julian Kim is dedicated to developing his skills to become a genuine musical actor who fully embodies his roles. Musical theater has already become a significant part of his career, and he approaches it with dedication and sincerity.
As his theater credits grow, he will undoubtedly continue his operatic career while also performing as a member of the crossover group Miraclass. It will be exciting to see how his journey unfolds.
