Opera Performance Summary, Reviews & Media
2014
MADAMA BUTTERFLY
Julian Kim performed as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, conducted by Juraj Valčuha, who was making his debut conducting opera in Florence. Kim's performance was praised for his attractive timbre and resonant volume. One review noted that Julian Kim was the only East Asian singer in the cast that evening, while the roles of Japanese characters were portrayed by singers of other backgrounds. His Italian diction, as always, was also well received.

"Julian Kim’s portrayal of Sharpless was very well done: his dark, handsome timbre and impeccable volume stood out, and he delivered his character skillfully, despite the limited opportunity for development offered by the direction."
