Fidelio
In 2016, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, under Sir Antonio Pappano, opened its season with a concert performance of Beethoven’s Fidelio. Julian Kim performed as Don Fernando, a brief yet pivotal role traditionally requiring a baritone with authority. Notably, Kim was the youngest principal cast member, marking a significant achievement in this prestigious production.
Critics praised Kim’s warm and noble baritone, with one reviewer describing him as the most musician-like of the cast. Another highlighted his impressive technique and Austrian German diction, calling his Don Fernando both commanding and sincere. Performing alongside renowned artists like Rachel Willis-Sørensen and Günther Groissböck, Kim's refined and memorable performance affirmed his status as a rising star.
